Japanese Cedar

Band sawn to order

Grown in the fertile soils of Taranaki, our Japanese Cedar benefits from the region's unique climate, resulting in a wood that is both resilient and easy to work with.  Our Japanese Cedar comes directly from our own beautiful forest. No part of the tree is wasted and we replant what we take, ensuring our property will remain beautiful despite its functional purpose.

If you have your own log/s of any specialist timber we can also band saw these to your requirements.

Beautiful Aesthetic

Japanese Cedar has a beautiful grain, golden color and is suitable for many projects both indoors and out. It can be oiled and it can also be charred which is a traditional practice still utilized in Japanese construction known as Shou Sugi Ban which gives not only a beautiful aesthetic but makes it a durable long lasting product.

Shou Sugi Ban

Shou Sugi Ban is the traditional  process of charring Japanese Cedar. Charring Japanese Cedar increases its durability. The carbonized layer protects against weather, pests, and decay, extending the wood's lifespan significantly, along with a beautiful range of charcoal shades that vary depending on the level of char. Due to the lack of availability of Japanese Cedar many other timbers are now charred to gain that unique look, Japanese Cedar still performs the best of them all.

Easy to Work With

Japanese Cedar is light and easy to work with, unlike many other timbers it retains its dimensions and resists warping or twisting as dries. With our timber being milled to order it means it likely hasn't been through appropriate drying time, you can be confident there will be little change in the product you purchased once it is dry.
